Ram: scion of Ikshuvaku
Well at some point in our lives we dream of having a royal life because all of us know the perks of having it. but the life of the prince Ram is pretty contradicting. the irony was, royal life was the reason for his loss of happiness. Amish has given a wonderful mythological fiction about the life of a prince. our prince.a prince who blindly abides by the law and stands for the dharma. a prince who dedicated his life to India. to that India which was highly superstitious.to those people in India who irrationally blamed the one-day-old prince Ram for his father’s loss in the war with Raavan. to those people who tortured young Ram for the inauspicious timing of his birth which no one could change.Ram loved his father in spite of knowing that his father was not happy with his birth.despite of having all the pain and grief in his life, Ram was always sensible, calm and happy because he had his three brothers who devoted him dearly and his wife Sita who loved and respected him.after few incidents he became dear to the people in the kingdom and enemy to others.but this was not it, the real challenge was up ahead.
everybody thinks that it is defeating Raavan but the real challenge was who will be the next Vishnu of India. as far as I understood from Amish writings is that Ramayana is not a war between Ram and Raavan but a cold war between two great saints of India Vasishta and Vishwamitra. one who wants Ram to be the next Vishnu and the other wants Sita to be the Vishnu. they would stoop any low to show each other worthless which would affect not only the lives of Ram and Sita but also Raavan’s. out of all the odds, Ram, Sita, and his brothers stuck together in the time of hardships and happiness. this book tells completely about what happened in Ram’s life.and the other books in the series tell about Sita and Raavan respectively. do read this book to smile at Ram’s happy moments and cry at heartbreaking moments.everybody has their own versions and own opinions on Ramayana this book is Amish’s version of the myth and trust me it’s worth reading.
